Amy Rutherford is passionate about international education, and education diplomacy. She’s been an international student – twice! First in the US as an exchange student during her bachelor’s degree and again in 2014 as a Chinese language student in Beijing. She’s the daughter of an English mother who travelled to New Zealand in the mid-1970s on a teacher exchange – so international education is in the blood.

Based at the New Zealand Embassy in Washington, D.C. for Education New Zealand, the New Zealand government agency responsible for international education, Amy’s role involves providing strategic advice and intelligence to further develop North American and European education relationships with New Zealand.

Her day-to-day work involves education diplomacy initiatives and liaison with universities and other international education stakeholders to progress New Zealand government objectives around international education; promotion of New Zealand as an education destination; and work to support internationalisation efforts in New Zealand.
